The dust moved forward into their faces, they could not see the track. He bent down to feel the earth, needing a connection. He knew the area was familiar but somehow very strange for he had never been along this track in the desert before.
Manning looked down at his hands, not recognizing that they were his for the moment, since instead of being their normal chocolate-brown, they were tinted with the orange sand that lay all around him. He looked back at Hazel and Danny, who were leaning casually against his fathers black, slightly rusty Ford Falcon. A look of boredom plagued both their faces as they waited for him to find some hint of the direction they were travelling in. He rose slowly and made his way towards the ute, dusting his favourite jeans on the way.
